About John Akpata

John Akpata brings over 15 years of hands-on industry experience to his consulting work. His journey into the field began as a compassionate grower and licensed advisor under Canada's MMAR and ACMPR frameworks - the regulatory systems that once governed medical marijuana production and access. That early and direct involvement gave him a practical understanding of cultivation and compliance that continues to shape his approach today.
John has built a reputation for helping others navigate complex regulatory landscapes, using his industry knowledge to bring clear, actionable guidance for clients working through licensing and policy challenges.
He is a longtime educator and public speaker, delivering workshops and lectures across Canada and internationally, and holds a certified Art Educator designation from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Teaching is still at the heart of what John does. He has mentored many people through complicated application processes and career transitions, always with an eye on making the path forward a little more clear.
